A School Free Life

I joined an Animal Care course and Doncaster College. I got on it at 14 because they were allowing home educated kids on the courses that have an entry level, even though its supposed to be 16+. Just did my first week, and it's even better than I thought, apart front the couple of mild panic attacks when I got lost, it was great, especially Friday, when I got to go into the Animal unit itself and got told to feed the fish, snails, and other aquatic stuff. Tropical fish wouldnt keep  still enough for a good picture Turtle, I forgot the actual name. Maybe terrapin. I was surprised that we were just thrown into it, it wasn't hard or anything, just surprising that they trusted us enough. I'm not complaining though, it was great. 3 Of the tanks i needed to put food in wanted locusts, live, and they were really fun to catch. A few got out as well, so we had to catch them. About a week or so ago The Things  came round for another experiment thing, this time we blew stuff up, ... not really but it would have been better if we did. Anyway I set up by far the best thing, it was a bottle of vinegar and a balloon with a loads of Bicarbonate of soda and, Fooosh the balloon goes up, I wished it had of popped but alas, it did not.. Not a whole lot more happened after that, mainly just playing and/or messing about.

Yesterday we set up a little experiment with Nikki, Luke and Emma. We were basically just testing to PH of some stuff around the house. It was pretty interesting to see how acidic some stuff was, for example, I mashed up a raspberry and it turned out to have a similar PH to lemon juice. We had some stuff to test Alkalinity, it seems that its mostly man-made stuff that is an alkaline. It went pretty well though, we had fun, if fun is trying to explain PH, acidity and alkalinity to a 7 year old.

When you hear that you're going to York for a 'Behind the scenes' at a museum, you would think that you're going to the 'Backstage' of a museum and learning about how to did everything there. But that wasn't at all the case. Instead we were stuck in a room for an hour learning about writing from an Inanimate  objects point of view, like 'The adventures of  a pincushion'... It's an exciting adventure about a pincushion!!! Yay!!  As you can definitely tell, I was THRILLED to learn about a phase in the 18th century where people started writing about random objects, instead of learning about the Fairfax house. But don't worry, we DID get to go to the actual Fairfax house! Because it was arranged as a Home ed trip, we didn't have to pay to get into the house itself, this lead to a very rushed, not even complete, tour of the house. This didn't impress me as Fairfax house is one of the few preserved houses that I actually liked. ...

A few days ago we went to Chester zoo, which is a pretty big and popular zoo here in the UK. Fun fact: According to Trip Adviser, Chester Zoo is rated 3# in the ENTIRE WORLD! It was alright, except for the fact wherever we went there were animals pooping, and there were school kids everywhere. Oh, and not forgetting the monkeys with haemorrhoids, or at least it looked like it. That was something that I could've lived without seeing... SO, moving on from that. My favourite part was the bat cave, which my coward of a sister didn't go anywhere near. It was really cool, I mean, it smelled terrible but it looked really cool... 300 bats flying round your head and you're bound the get hit at some point, which I did. The parks there are really good as well, it's just a pity that we didn't get long on them. It was honestly pretty good, still debating whether or not it was worth getting up at 6 for. On Tuesday, 12th September, we went to a place called The DEEP on a home Education trip. I'd heard about it and I had a basic idea of what it was, but it wasn't much like I had imagined really, I thought it was a giant aquarium that you could walk through, all though there was a tunnel that did do that. Me and my baby sister had a educational session booked in, her's was first and I had to sit through it... I did get a microscope to look at some shrimp with... that was fun... Okay moving on. There was an hour and 20 minutes between them and in that time we had lunch, that was nice... I was starving. Then it was mine, I think that they could've explained it better because it got difficult and I nearly give up but I got to draw on the table!! So overall mine was better. Then we actually got to walk 'round the place and look at the exhibits, my favourite one was the jelly fish dome, the there was some amazing tanks, including one with a pair of Green Saw-fi...

I went to help my nanny with a nice lady with her 3 children who went soap making at my nanny's unit. The soap turned out really nice and we even got to go to the park behind the unit while the soap set :D It's a pity that they live so far away, I think that I would've gotten along well... :(

Yesterday, I did my very first proper (I didn't go to the first one) S.T.E.M Session. The first one my sister went to (that I didn't) they made goo. This time however, we were looking at and learning about rocks, at first I was grumpy but it soon got interesting...! We first looked at Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks, I honestly didn't have a clue what these meant until I went there... The More You Know! :o What I also found interesting is that 1. Igneous rocks are formed by volcanic eruptions. 2. Sedimentary rocks are nice layers of sand, dirt, stone and whatever else. 3. Metamorphic rocks are basically Sedimentary rocks that have melted together. 4. All of these can become each other in any order! We also got into groups and each group got a hand-made Sedimentary rock and there was something inside and we got some tools to dig it out with. After we did that we all got to make one hand-made Sedimentary rock ourselves, I haven't dug my little bug thing out...

Last week a lot of schools were doing S.A.Ts, not us! There was a thing going called #NotDoingSatsWeek for home educators, so all last week we (Me, Alicia, Nikki, Luke, Emma [their mum] and my nan... have I missed someone? Oh, yeah, and also Jess) were doing something.  On Monday we went to the Cinema to watch "Alvin and the chipmunks road Chip"... UGH, I hated it! On Tuesday we went to Clifton park  museum... yeah, that's all... I was grumpy at the time so I didn't take much notice of what was going on. Look out!!!! A Jess and a Nikki with a gun are more deadly that the navy!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!! On Wednesday we went to Wednesday group which was the usual boring (we did make a glitter globe though, mine failed :( ) Until the end where I threw a tantrum... a good week so far!!!! Now, on Thursday we actually did something interesting!! We went to Roche abbey! That was ok, I climbed mostly though, until we were told to stop...

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday last week Me and Jess went to the Tesco in Rotherham to learn how to cook! The three days we were there we made 3 items a day, but I'm only going to talk about my favourite :3: Day 1.  Pitta Bread with some sort of really nice tomato topping! This was probably my favourite out all 3, It was surprisingly nice (considering I helped to make it!). And guess what two ingredients we made the pitta bread out of??? I will reveal in the comment section! ;) Day 2.  Chow mien. I learned that this name actually means 'left overs' in Chinese! We also made a bread mixture to bring home, see below. Day 3. A Greek salad!!! I like most Greek food and I love salad! Greek food + salad = YUMMY! :D I probably liked the cheese that was in it most. Bread, not very edible.-_-  And probably the part that I liked best of all 3 cooking lessons was the fact than I took part with chopping, grating, squeezing, squishing, stirring...

Yesterday me, Jess and my grandad went to the aircraft museum in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to learn how aeroplanes and helicopters fly. There was a home educators day there so we decide to go and have a look what's there. As soon as we got there (after a half-an-hour trip) we imminently saw a HUGE helicopter and aeroplanes! When we got inside we waited a while... then the lesson stared! I already know a little bit about how aeroplanes flew but I didn't know 95% of what they taught me then and there. My favourite part of that lesson was the little clip they showed us of early attempts of flying... IT WAS HILARIOUS!!! Hehe. :3 We had dinner. It was yummy. We then had a look around the actual museum, here are some pictures: Big helicopter. Another helicopter..... we don't seem to be moving...... aw. :(

Yesterday me, Alicia, Nikki, Luke and my little sister Jess went to Poolsbrook Park. When we got there after about 35 mins of traveling I was surprised to see almost all the geese from in the lake near the play area and just waddled up to Alicia, she seemed to back off but they didn't attack or anything but oook.  We played for a while, mainly on this spinning, upy downy thing! :) but we had to go as it was FREEZING! And what made it worse was the fat the there were METAL equipment, so, naturally, the metal was ALSO FREEZING so that made our hand even worse. :( This is pretty much the whole park, the gym equipment isn't is this photo and a few othe play things. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, it's more fun than it looks! It goes surprisingly fast. 

On Wednesday Me, Alicia, Luke, Nikki and my little sister Jess when to Wednesday group (a home ed group in Worksop, I don't like it there much) as that day a lady was coming to print on T-shirts. My grandad had stayed up till about 2am the previous night doing our stencils (mine was a hedgehog and jess's was an unicorn) but it was all worth it! It was ok for the 5 minutes it lasted then nanny realised something... I'd printed it on the BACK of my t-shirt :( Not much else happened afterwards I'm never going there again if I can help it. :( This is Alicia doing her print. Yesterday, me, Alicia and my Nanny went to Eureka for  a special Home Educators day. We first went this show where they basically told us about going to space and what its like up there and demonstrated 'lift off'' (when the rocket takes off) by putting chlorophyll alcohol into huge water bottle, keeping the gas inside and lighting it..... WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH, a load of flames came bursting out! We got a couple of good photos but apart from playing with a robot, the actual space museum was a bit too childish for me. :/ AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHH! I'm being eaten! *Sniff* *sniff* I smell th-...... eeeww! Go and have a wash!

I started 2015 in school, as I'd wanted to come out for a while my nanny took me out in May. Up until May it was VERY boring so not much to talk about, HOWEVER this is some of what happened afterwards: Dissecting Owl Pellets. Today, we had another go at Geocaching (this time we actually WENT Geocaching instead of going to big tops!) with me, nanny, Sophie, Anna and their mum. We first decided to go up a pit hill which my nanny let me navigate the up there we did get there but I took them the loooong way round. But as I turns out, after ages of looking, the cache had gone missing! :( So after that failed attempt we went looking for a different one, next up Lazy Tree! It wasn't hard finding that one as the twins ( Sophie and Anna) mum found it first. We then brought them to a cache that we had already found but let them find it. After 5 minutes of looking nanny let me gesture in the direction as I could plainly see it! We then started to walk back, we had about 45 mins in the park and then we all went home!

Unfortunately, I have missed my HE meeting again today 'cos' my dog is in surgery again this morning and were waiting for the phone call to say she's out of surgery and so my grandad can go and get her! She has got a bacteria called e coli!!!:'(As I have got nothing to write about I thought I would do my blog post on ' Conisborough Castle '. We went to Conisborough Castle on the 1st of June were me, my nanny and grandad (and jess!) got to see all around the Castle ! It was very good but grandad had a bit of a weird moment looking down a toilet! we went up to the keep first were we saw a REAL (!) nest of live hawk chicks and they were sooooooo cute! they were in one of those archer slots which I have forgot the name of ! ;) we also saw a big well as we walked into the castle! Here is some information on the castle!.. ... . Conisbrough Castle was built by Hamelin Plantagenet, half brother of Henry II in the 1170’s. The  keep and parts of the gatehouse...

Yesterday on the 3rd of July, we went to Sheffield university again but this time for a ' Be a scientist' day!  It was a lot more interesting than last time, this time we didn't only go to the museum but when we came back we got to handle all sorts of creatures like: cockroaches, stick insects, meal worms, woodlice and meal worm beetles! I held the cockroach first then some other kids had a turn... After that I held a long stick insect that was a lot more active than the cockroach. I think Alicia was much more happy to hold to stick insect than the cockroach! :) we also had a look under some microscopes at real life bug heads... it was weird but extremely interesting! Oh, and by the way we won a years supply of pringles in a competition on Thursday.
