Today was our first day in the 1000 miles challenge, we walked 3.85 miles!!!!! Expect lots of posts like this, we are just keeping track of how far we've walked! And photo's of the places we've walked.
This was at 4:30 pm when it just started to pip! In a previous post i talked about incubating eggs.. now the eggs are hatching!!! :D Yesterday one of our eggs started to pip, As it can take 24 hours or more for a chick to hatch I thought we would have a chick the next day. A few hours later there was a HUGE crack and cheeping! It was really strange not being able to see the chick but hearing it. This was at 7:30, it had made a much bigger crack this time! This was at 9:10, as you can see it has made an even BIGGER crack this time! This was only 5 mins after and look at the difference!!!!! When we were sent to bed (my eye's were just drooping) we was called down to see that the chick had kicked off a huge chunk of the egg. We stayed down a bit longer and it finally punched through and we saw a wing! AWWWWWWWWW, look at it's beak! And this was minutes before the hatching! :D A few minutes later it was fully hatched! it looked bet...
Today we decided to take apart an owl pellet that my grandad found. Owl pellets are regurgitated and contain all the animals’ parts that they can’t digest. They normally contain bone, teeth, hair and feathers of various animals eaten by the owls. First I soaked it in water, Then I put a few drops of disinfectant in. Then I carefully pulled it apart. We found loads of feathers and a few bones. It was quite disappointing because I thought we would at least get a skull. :-( It was more interesting then I thought it would be. Here are a few of the bones that we found. We are hoping to find another pellet soon which might have more it in. :)
