St. John Ambulance Pet First Aid Course

Image
Yesterday, Calverton SJA unit set up a pet first aid course. I was the only cadet from my unit there so I didn't know anyone. Also I mummified a cat.... It was break and I was bored...  A PDSA veterinary nurse was there to teach us, which I was surprised at. I learned a lot of very interesting things there, Including where to find a pulse on a dog and different diseases that pets can develop and what affects they have. The CPR was interesting too. There were different subjects such as poisoning, bloating, seizures and different stuff like that. The bloating one was my favourite, I always thought it was just a bit of air in the stomach, but no, with dogs their whole stomach can twist, blocking off the blood supply to other vital organs. This was one of the more relevant ones considering our dogs are deep chested and deep chested dogs are more likely to have this happen to them.  The seizures were interesting as well, especially the video that she showed of some pets h...

Awards Night

Image
Yesterday was my second awards night with SJA, I got 2 awards same as last year, the highest attendance and somehow the most enthusiastic. I baked a cake which actually turned out really well, I think is was the best one there! There were quit a few things going on including a Raffle and a bake sale. I won 2 tickets to the tropical butterfly house so I think we'l be going with Emma and her kids :D

Interesting Day Today

So earlier today myself and Jessica went to our first PARKOUR SESSION! It was honestly LOADS better than I thought, and the instructors were quite nice as well. I can do a lot more than I thought I could. There's a huge pit as well full of foam, so you could either jump off the baby ramp (like Jess did) or you could climb up to the high one (about 2m up), the first step is easy the second on too.... but the third is very hard to get on but it's worth it when you jump off!!!! After we got home we didn't stay for long because we still needed to do our 3 miles for the Walk 1000 Miles Challenge, but we took a different route this time so it was WAY more interesting. We have aso been collecting sticks, OBVIOUSLY I AM WINNING!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!!! No but seriously my sticks are taller than me... 😐💢 I feel so short while holding them. And soon I will be going to cadets!!!! WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP!!!!

St. John Ambulance Remembrance Day Parade!

Image
Today was the remembrance day parade and lots of local groups including St. John Ambulance, Air cadets, Army cadets, Sea cadets, Brownies + Guides (in the brownies and guides I went to they didn't learn to march, I didn't go there long so whatever), and a few other groups all met up to parade though Worksop for Remembrance day! Honestly, It was much better than I thought it would be. I was quite worried. But it was actually pretty good! Well, ... except the church part in which I actually nearly fell asleep, but I know a lot of people do believe in that sort of stuff so I'll keep my opinions to myself! But most of it was just marching, which Grandad thought was pretty........ Rubbish... -_- (Grandad's old so he went to the really old cadets where everything's done perfectly, hehe). Oh, and by the way as I'm writing this I am admiring how fast I can now type :) I taught myself :)! Anyway, it was pretty good. We started off marching down to the cenotaph from Savoy...

St. John Ambulance Award's Night.

Image
Yesterday, St. John Ambulance held an awards night. I honestly did better than a thought I would, with 2 Trophies, Bronze Prior award, 1 paper-plate trophy (hahaha) and A LOT OF Certificates (9) and best of all, the sweets! :3 Here's a photo of me and the trophies: The trophy on the left (------>) is best Trainers cadets and the one on the right is for highest attendance (it was joint between me and another cadet, but we dont have permission to put her name :p ). The Paper- plate award was for asking a lot of questions, I THINK that's a complement. Unfortunately Alicia couldn't come, due to 1. Being back at school and 2. Her little pet hamster, Cookie, died... R.I.P Cookie. :'(

Horse Riding :)

Image
So, yesterday, me, Jess, Alicia, Nikki, Luke, Emma, nanny and grandad went horse riding! (Well, not nanny, grandad and Emma), It will be a monthly thing. So when we got there, I thought it would just be learning about horses and what NOT to do. But I wasn't expecting to actually get on a horse and go trotting! I have never been horse riding so this was a new thing... yay! I am also surprised that I got the biggest horse they had out, and her name was Willow. Hopefully next time we get to go faster. PS. We have really fat heads with those helmets on -_- Also, this week in St. John we 'mimicked' (is that the right word?) a car crash and I got to practise CPR.

St. John Ambulance

Image
Yesterday I went to St. John Ambulance (not that I don't go every week, but I'm just talking about this week). The first lesson was about drowning, which was strange because earlier that day me, my nanny and grandad were talking about swimming lessons for me, which I hate by the way. The drowning lesson was mainly how to get them out, without jumping in after them. We did cover how to treat them. But I'm not gonna go through it! ;) Then we had a break.................................................................. a long one. Actually only about 20 minutes, but ok. Then we went onto learning about the human eye and what can go wrong and how to treat it, stuff like chemicals in the eye, foreign objects in the eye and so on. They weren't looking for diseases and stuff like that, though. This is a eyeball I drew form memory from the previous day at Cadets, And I threw a brain in there for good measure! ;) We then went on to treating dummies, I got put In a ...

Jessica slept in my room last night, the only bad night I've had! Doesn't that say somethin', eh? She had to do this 'cos her bedroom's being painted and decorated. 10th, Its The 10th!!

Image
The weather outside is frightful, but the fire's so delightful. And since we've no place to go  (No school!).  Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow! Please, please let it snoooow!   Our Delightful fire: (Yes, we do have a log fire. We're old-fashioned! but we have central heating as well, so not THAT old! ;)    And, as promised, I have something interesting to talk about! Last night, St. John Ambulance held a film night where we could go in our one-zees, bring a pillow and some popcorn. We watched 'ELF', I didn't think much of it. WARNING: (Spoilers Alert!) Please not read the underlined writing if you haven't already seen it, Thank you! It starts off when Santa visit's an orphanage and a baby crawls into his sack and when he arrives back at the 'North Pole' he had to be raised by an elf, Lond story short he met back up with his dad and his dad didn't like it!   14 DAYS TO GO!

6th December, Not Much To Talk About!!!

Image
6th December, I'm not in a great mood today, not even a good one for that matter. Santa Clause is coming to town. He knows when you are sleeping, he know when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good, SO BE GOOD FOR GODNESS SAKE! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the weather's still horrible, just like usual! Oh wait I do have a snip of something to talk about (spoilers alert) this Wednesday ill be going to a film night at St. John Ambulance, I doubt ill be going in my pyjamas though! We can bring popcorn though, so that's alright! :)

St. John Ambulance Uniform

Image
Yay! Finally my St. John Ambulance uniform has arrived it only took a week and a bit! -_- Here's what I look like!:

22 Days Until Christmas Eve, 10 Days Until My Room's Done! :)

Image
2nd December, YAY! On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me. Two Turtle Doves and a Partridge in a Pear Tree. And my grandad got the Christmas calendars so I ended up eating two this morning. :3 yum!  Also, in 10 days time, I'll have my own room. Well... that night. Grandad's already converted the attic into a bedroom, all we need now is on the 12th December is a man to come round to put the carpet down and that's it, I'm moving in! But, there's one bad thing about the attic the horrible amount of spiders living in the cupboards, luckily I'm not allowed  to go in them, like I would! I'm also going to St. John Ambulance tonight! Its been fun so far, I need my uniform soon though! (I'm getting distracted by a fat looking pigeon on top of my grandads workshop and its just flew away, never mind. And no, there wasn't any need for this pice of useless information! :3 )

St. John's Ambulance

It's been 3 weeks since I properly started to go to St. John's Ambulance as a cadet, and I'm sure I'll keep going! So far we've learned: Recovery position ( I nearly broke my instructors..... EVERTHING!), C.P.R (witch at the moment I might be able to get someone breathing but they'll end up with several broken ribs! ;)), How to stop bleeding (got to work on that :/), strains and sprains in only 3 days of going! As a Cadet, I'll be working towards a Grand Prior Award (not sure WHAT this is). I can choose from over seventy different subjects to complete my award. These are from first aid to fire prevention and photography to sports. We don't have any photos at all, sorry! :(
