R.I.P Barley

On June 12 I woke up to find little barley dead. This caught me off guard as she wasn't ill, the night before I swapped her and robin over into each others cage, which I do quite often. She was eating and drinking fine and was moving without a problem. But the more I think about it the more it made sense, she was, after all, over 2 1/2 years old, which is quite a long life span for a rat.  I was extremely shook for the first couple hours but I calmed down quickly. I had to get rid of the weeds in the front bed in the garden so grandad could dig a hole (that's right, we don't put our pets in the bin), this led to me clearing to bed completely and planting some flowers, I've now done the same thing to the bed nest to it where Lemon was buried. I am very glad she went how she did, as far I can tell she died of old age, the best way to go :) She's a lot luckier than the other 3 who didn't get to go as quickly. Now there is only Robin, he lives in barley's ca...

R.I.P Lemon

Image
2 Days ago I had to put down Lemon, my third Rat to die. A week or so prior she had fallen ill, and we knew it was only a matter of time. For the her last week she got better and as even eating and drinking on her own.  But then, on Friday, she went from the best she had been in a while to the worst, in a matter of a few hours. I hoped it was just an episode so I put off taking her to the vets, until the following day where she was worse, way way worse. But the vets had already closed so I couldn't do anything until Monday. Nothing much happend on the Saturday, I lay in bed with her all day. She was only just able to move, basically dragging herself. On Sunday I made the decision to put her down the next day, she had a violent seizure which was horrible to watch, and since then she made bad twitching movements. I had really hoped she died over night, but she chose to carry on fighting. That makes it sound cruel of me to put her down while she is still fighting. But we all knew,...

OK....

Ok, the reason I haven't done any posts is that Arrow, the sick one, died. Christmas eve I came up to give them some treats but I noticed that he wasn't moving except to breath (with was quick and sharp), I put my hand in to see if he was asleep, I touched his leg, he didn't move... I called nanny and we quickly found he was dying... 5 minutes later he died. This really shocked me as he was getting better and most rats who develop this disease can live with it, but no. Arrow died... I miss him, and so does his brother Robin too. I need to spend a lot more time with Robin now, he is a lot like Arrow but obviously not the same. At least Arrow died with some one comforting him...

Good News! 5 DAYS TO GO!

Image
In my last post I said that one of pets, Arrow, was dying... well he's still not doing that good but he's much better, he's now eating a lot more and even drinking of his own accord! Nanny did a bit of research and found out that they can live the disease but they will just be different, it doesn't hurt then either. So yeah that's good news! I really didn't think he was gonna come back from it but he's really trying. Oh, yeah, and 5 more days to go :O!!!

13 And One Of Rats Is Dying

So yesterday I didn't make a post because I found out that one of my rats, Arrow, is dying. He has a respiratory disease and isn't eating or drinking... and all this 2 week before Christmas. I was still up at 02:05 watching Grimm with my nanny. I think he's doing slightly better today but still isn't eating or drinking. I don't cry over nothing but I cried so much last night that my tear ducts LITERALLY RAN OUT OF TEARS!! That's actually not a joke my eye's hurt and I couldn't cry anymore. So yeah, great way to start Christmas 😢... There is no cure for it either, every rat is born with it but are rarely affected by it, and NEVER before the age of 3 months. But it just so happens I got one that was.

Ratty Update :)

Image
Just a small update in how my little ratties are doing! :) Boys: Sorry for the quality, it was just so cute I had to put it on! :3 (Arrow^^) (Robin^^)  *dies of cuteness overload* Now for the girls: (Champagne)   (Lemon) Barley being very anti-social and not coming out  -_- Unfortunately, I would like Champagne to go to the vets, she keeps getting red stuff under her eye's and nose (although I heard it can just come from the eye and appear around her nose) and is constantly sneezing, she does sleep an awful lot compared to the others, and even when I have her out she often curls up and goes to sleep, she isn't even old, only about 1 year and a month or 2 she has a nice diet with normal rat food and some ham or chicken (when I can get my hands on it), she loves that along with some cheerios. But we cant do too much at the moment as we are having the roof done.

3 New Rats :)

Now, I know I seem to be getting a lot of rats, but, today our 2 oldest ones (Yin and Yang) went to a better home where the nice lady there is not afraid at all of them and just took them out and cuddled them :3 I now have 5 rats O.O They are all well behaved This is Lemon, she is a Creme Dumbo! She is around 2 months (we think) This is Champagne, she is a Champagne Russian!!! She is a year old This is also Champagne :) This is Barley, she is a Wheaten Burmese! She is also around 2 months (again, we think, judging by their size)

Ssssssssh! Don't Tell Alicia!!

Image
*Whispering* Well, Yesterday me, Alicia, Luke, Nikki and Jess went to the cinema (I'll be doing a post on that), after we had finished watching what we were watching, Me, Jess, nanny and grandad went to WheelGates! We had a look at the animals and went on a few of the rides like normal. We then went to ask "Do you have any RATS for sale?" 'cos' they didn't seem to have any in their little animal bit (It was FILLED up of baby guinea-pigs! SO CUTE :3)         so we asked a couple just outside to see if they had any but they hadn't :( But, the man said that White Post Farm had some for sale, and so he rang up to check (He's very nice), They had!!! So we went down there (Its like ACROSS the road from WheelGates) and the lady at the till took us through to the little room where they had the rats, both male and only about 5 1/2 weeks old! We bought the pair of them and took them home!!! We also know that we can handle them because the woman took them bot...

Rats!

Image
Well, my rats are doing fine except one bit me and my nanny. I don't blame that on the rat though, but I don't blame it on us either. Anyway very soon I'm gonna get another rat, one that's been handled before, and see how I go with that one. :) I've named my current rats Yin & Yang cos when they sleep together that's what they look like! Hehe. I don't have favourites by the way. ;) They're doing alright I've found Yin's (the white hooded one) favourite snack, Cheerios! Not sure on Yang though, he's the one who bit me and nanny. :( But they are still ADORABLE!!!!! I can't easily get photos of them but I'll try! Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! The one on the left is Yang and the other one's Yin.

Never Mind Monday, How's About today?

Image
I said in the last post about me getting a rat on Monday..... I WAS WRONG! Today my Nanny and my Grandad surprised me when they took me to Sheffield to look at a pair of male rats, we liked the look of the rats and we got BOTH of them where as I though we were only getting one! They came with a HUGE cage as well, win win! Here's what they look like!: Not figured out the names out yet! I'll get better photos soon and I'll announce the names. ;)

Next Monday I'll Have My Rat!

Today my nanny sent out an order for my rats cage, It's green (same colour as my new room) and comes with a ladder and a small shelf. PERFECT! Next Monday I'll be going to have a look at some rats and pick one that I like, not sure AT ALL what to call it though. :( We (Me, my nanny and my grandad) went into town to look for some track suit bottoms for me, NONE of the actual sport shops had any so we're gonna have a look online to see if we can see any in my size.
