A Few Places That We've Been To In The Last Few Weeks

We've been to 3 places using the national trust card over the last few weeks. One of them being somewhere we've been driving past and wanting to go to for a long time, Mr, Straws house. The others being castles.

Mr. Straws House.

Built in 1905 and remained mainly untouched since the 1920s, its been repainted in places and some protective measure have been put in place, but in the main part of the house its basically the same. The owners had a very wartime attitude of make do and mend, so even before the last owner died in 1990, its was still basically exactly the same than before, with very little in the way of modernisation. Except a boiler I suppose. I wasnt all that interested, but one thing that was pretty amusing, was on the bed in Mr straws room, the bed sheets hadnt been changed since he died, and there was a grimy semi circle at the foot of the bed at the edge where he used to sit, a bit gross, but eh.
The house itself wasn't what I was expecting at all, its a lot bigger but kinda tight and claustrophobic at the same time. Everyone was super short, Mrs Straw being 4"11 and Mr Straw only being a few inches taller. There was a pretty good garden though, and a little greenhouse filled with cacti for some reason.

Bolsover castle.

This is probably the biggest castle I've been to, and possibly the best preserved. Ignoring the fact I had walked around the whole thing 3 times before everyone else was finally finished, it was pretty interesting. With all the castles I've been to; I'm barely interested anymore. The only part that I really look forward to its the view, or maybe climbing broken walls in the courtyard.
The castle was first built around the 12th century during medieval times, after a few beating, it was renovated in the early 13th century, where the towers were added, for £183. You cant even get a good, new ps4 for that now, and people back then were just causally building castles.

Conisbrough castle.

We went here, again. It was pretty nice, but the same as last time. It was a nice day, so i guess that made it a bit nicer. I mean, it was nice both times, but it gets boring after the first time, especially because its not that big a castle. There were recording at each floor that were pretty interesting, but having seen and heard them before, there wasnt much more to do.
Im pretty sure ive done a blog post on Conisbrough before, so ill link it riiiight HERE ,  this was cute lil 10 year old me, so cute, so innocent, well maybe not innocent but definitely cute. Kinda.
