Coronavirus

So the past couple months haven't been the best, 2020 is just really not starting off great. In January there was this wierd threat of war between kim jong un and Trump, In February I aged another year, not as bad as the other things but still sucks. Now in March we have this freaky virus going around, we're locked in our houses and stuff, we cant go outside or we get arrested or something, I cant go to college which sucks a LOT but I do have 2 baby rats and a ps4 to keep me company.

At this moment in time im not super worried but thats pretty easy to say from the safety of our house, although the news reports of this thing, especially the way a lot of the general population is reacting, is pretty terrifying. Like who actually needs dozens of costco packs of toilet paper? What are you going to do with that? Barricade yourself in with extra soft toilet paper? Yeah, im dying of this deadly disease but at least my backside is super clean. Just nooo, and then theres normal, sensible people being driven to stock up like this too BECAUSE of those people clearing out the supermarkets hours after opening, making it really hard to get their normal shopping when they need it.

One thing really really annoyed me though, baby formula, mums with newborn babies cant get powdered baby formula because people are clearing the shelves of it, and some people are replacing coffee creamers with baby formula because they cant get coffee creamers?? Why? Black coffee isnt even bad, I tried it the other day, bit of sugar, bam, no problems, its fine and imma have to drink it like that a lot more too, because we're not allowed to get much milk when we do go out, which we're not. Anyway, the coffee creamer thing is bad, but then there's just straight up nasty people who clear the supermarkets on purpose to re-sell it at a stupidly high profit, same with toilet paper, so what thats telling me is, in the middle of a worldwide crisis, there's people who see that and get those green dollar signs in their eyes like you see in cartoons, its all about money, isnt it.

INCUBATING EGGS!!!!!

Today we started to Incubate 3 eggs so HOPEFULLY, In about 21 days, we will have little chicks... Here is some info on incubation!: PERFECT TEMPERATURE!!! ;)  First off, eggs will normally hatch in around 21 days, sometimes they could hatch a day or 2 early or late. Secondly, eggs need to be placed in the incubator a week or less after being laid.(We put them in a few hours after being laid:)!) An ideal temperature for a hens egg to hatch should be around 37.5 °C but 35. °C to 40.5°C is OK! You NEED to turn the eggs about 3 times a day to prevent the embryo sticking to the inside of the egg shell! DO NOT turn the eggs after the 18th day! We've 4 chickens of our own, 3 hens and 1 cockerel so the eggs were incubating are from our own hens which in my case makes it even more exiting! Our cockerel is a Light Sussex, one of our hens is a White Leghorn, another one is a Bluebell, and the last one is a Speckeldy so we don't know what we will come out with!

Owl Pellet

Today we decided to take apart an owl pellet that my grandad found. Owl pellets are regurgitated and contain all the animals’ parts that they can’t digest. They normally contain bone, teeth, hair and feathers of various animals eaten by the owls. First I soaked it in water, Then I put a few drops of disinfectant in. Then I carefully pulled it apart. We found loads of feathers and a few bones. It was quite disappointing because I thought we would at least get a skull. :-( It was more interesting then I thought it would be. Here are a few of the bones that we found. We are hoping to find another pellet soon which might have more it in. :)
